Guided Horseback Trail Rides Through the Untouched Alberta Rockies

We operate out of the Bighorn Recreational Area of the Alberta Rockies; it’s a beautiful, underexplored stretch of backcountry that most travellers never get to see. Our basecamp is located 45 km southwest of Nordegg, Alberta, on Highway 11. We’re just across the highway from the David Thompson Resort. For international guests, Calgary International Airport (YYC) is the closest major international airport. From there, the roughly three-hour drive takes you northwest along the edge of the Rockies, through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in Canada.

We want this to be a fun and safe experience for everyone, which is why we have set certain criteria for riders. All riders must be 6 years old or older. Riders must be under 240 lbs and under 6'7" in height. We also recommend that riders be in good physical condition and free of other limitations.

This is, again, for your safety and the safety of the animals.

No prior experience is required for our hourly trail rides. Our guides and horses are experienced at working with riders of all comfort levels and will make sure you feel confident before you head out. For our overnight pack trips, some riding experience is helpful. Reach out to us, and we'll help you decide which experience is the right fit.

We do our best to keep our groups small, so every guest gets a genuine, personal experience. It's an intimate way to explore the wilderness without being crowded.

We offer shorter trail rides in four durations: 30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, and 4 hours. Each ride takes you through the stunning backcountry of the Coral Creek Valley with a knowledgeable guide leading the way.

Our 8-day guided horseback pack trip takes small groups of adventurers deep into the backcountry of the Alberta Rockies, through the Coral Creek Valley and into wilderness that very few people ever experience. You'll ride, camp, and live at the pace of the land, guided by a team that knows and loves every trail.

Step back in time and spend the night in a sturdy traditional wall tent; it's the same style used by early travellers as they explored the Bighorn area of Alberta. Located in a common area just outside our base camp, these tents are the real thing: no electricity, no running water, no cell service. Just fresh mountain air, open skies, and plenty of room to breathe. Toilets, showers, and phone service are all within easy walking distance, so you have what you need without losing the experience.

The more notice we receive, the better. This helps ensure you can join the trail ride or pack trip that best fits your schedule. However, we are frequently able to accommodate walk-ins.

Here is our recommended booking timeline:

• 1-hour Rides: We can usually get you saddled up if you walk in.
• 3 & 4-hour Rides: It is recommended that you book a couple of days before your desired date.
• Backcountry Trips: The further ahead you contact us, the better, but even if you reach out a month ahead we should be able to get you on trails.
